German Studies
Whether you just want to start a new language or have already developed an interest in German culture, you've come to the right place.
The German Studies Department offers a stimulating curriculum that includes a full roster of courses on language, literature, film, history, and culture.
With these courses you may satisfy the language requirement, earn credit toward a Concentration, or major and minor in German Studies. Majors will become proficient in the German language, gain knowledge of German-speaking literature, culture, and history, and engage in the critical analysis of those traditions.
The centerpiece of German Studies at Davidson is our study abroad program in Freiburg, which we run in affiliation with IES Abroad. Open to all Davidson students, irrespective of their language proficiency, the program offers you a summer, semester, or full-year experience in one of the most picturesque cities in all of Germany—and its environmental capital.
On campus, the faculty are engaged in scholarship and research, but we all take an active interest in our students, past and present. Our office doors are always open, and we'd love to talk.
